About Us

We provide climate, environmental, geospatial intelligence for informed decisions.

Who we are

Locally Grounded Intelligence for Complex Decisions

Somalia Peace Lens is a Somali-led, nationally registered nonprofit intelligence platform delivering climate, environmental, and geospatial analysis in support of peacebuilding, resilience, and sustainable development.

We combine satellite imagery, artificial intelligence, geospatial analysis, open-source intelligence, structured field research, and Somali contextual expertise to produce rigorous and practical evidence for governments, development and humanitarian partners, researchers, investors, and communities.

OUR STORY

Somalia Peace Lens was established in response to a persistent structural gap: Somalia's exposure to climate and environmental shocks has grown steadily, while the timely, locally verified evidence needed to manage that exposure has not. Recurrent drought displacing families, flooding reshaping riverine livelihoods, and intensifying competition over land and water were well documented in aggregate yet poorly understood at the level where decisions are actually made. A group of Somali analysts, geospatial specialists, and peacebuilding practitioners founded Somalia Peace Lens to close that gap—pairing advanced analytical technology with community knowledge to produce insight that is both technically credible and contextually grounded.

Since inception, the organization has developed into a reference point for understanding how climate and environmental change intersect with security, mobility, and livelihoods. Through geospatial analysis, AI-assisted research, and sustained field engagement, we have examined emerging conflict hotspots, environmental degradation, and displacement corridors that conventional reporting cycles routinely miss. That trajectory mirrors Somalia's own: converting exposure into capability through credible, evidence-based analysis that government institutions, humanitarian actors, and investment partners can rely on.

Today Somalia Peace Lens continues to expand—deepening coverage across Somalia's federal member states, extending selected engagement into the wider Horn of Africa, and investing consistently in local technical capacity. We have positioned the organization as a platform for responsible, anticipatory decision-making and as evidence that Somali-led innovation can drive sustainable development and prevent crises before they escalate. Our story rests on a straightforward conviction: data should not merely record change but help resolve division and secure a more peaceful future.
